Trio
Records A record label dedicated to fine recordings of acoustic jazz. The Music of Clifford Brown

The
latest CD from Trio Records is a joyous tribute to the life and work
of the legendary Clifford Brown, whose extraordinary musicality has
been a major influence on both Gary Kavanagh and Bobby Wellins. Bobby
Wellins is a master of the tenor saxophone and bed-rock of the British
jazz scene: his uniquely
lyrical and inventive playing is perfectly suited to the tightly
crafted arrangements of 1950s hardbop. This is Bobby’s fifth outing
on Trio Records following on from the well aclaimed Quartet album
‘Snapshot’ (TR580), and demonstrating again his position as a major
voice on the tenor saxophone. Bobby is joined on the front line by
Gary Kavanagh whose flowing, creative lines and beautiful melodic
improvisations make him one of Europe’s most interesting and intelligent
trumpet players. Roy Hilton’s impeccable comping and exquisite soloing
are unsurpassed, whilst the drive and playfulness of the drums could
only be the marvellous Spike Wells. The rhythm section is completed
with the soulful bass of Dave Whitford.
